A 780nm longpass filter is an optical filter that transmits light with wavelengths longer than 780nm, while blocking or attenuating light with shorter wavelengths.
The primary application of a 780nm longpass filter is in optical systems that require the separation of near-infrared light (NIR) from visible light or shorter-wavelength light. For instance, in fluorescence microscopy, a 780nm longpass filter can be used to block visible light and shorter-wavelength excitation light while allowing the longer-wavelength emission light to pass through. This results in a high signal-to-noise ratio for the detection of NIR fluorescence.
