Dammann Gratings are specialized diffractive optical elements that efficiently and uniformly split an incident laser beam into multiple output beams arranged in a pre-designed, regular array of grating patterns.

Principle of Dammann Gratings

Unlike traditional black-and-white gratings or phase gratings, Dammann gratings do not distribute energy through periodic structures. Essentially a binary phase grating, it redistributes the energy of the incident light to specific higher-order diffraction modes through precise, complex multi-level phase modulation within the grating period.

As a type of laser beam splitter, Daman grating can generate one-dimensional or two-dimensional multi-beam arrays such as 3×3, 5×5, or 9×9 dot patterns with exceptionally high beam energy uniformity. What is Damman Grating’s Application in Laser Beam Shaping

In laser beam shaping, Damman gratings perform more than simple beam splitting. They precisely modulate the laser wavefront through microscopic relief structures on their surface, introducing specific discrete phase delays to light at different spatial positions within the beam. This creates the desired intensity pattern in the far field.
