Fast Axis Collimating (FAC) Cylindrical Lens
Fast Axis Collimating (FAC) Cylindrical Lenses are cylindrical lenses specifically designed for collimating the fast-axis beam of semiconductor laser diodes.
Fast Axis Collimating (FAC) Cylindrical Lens Product Overview
Fast Axis Collimating (FAC) Cylindrical Lenses are cylindrical lenses specifically designed for collimating the fast-axis beam of semiconductor laser diodes. They correct and compress the large divergence angle (25°-60°) of the laser diode’s output beam in the fast-axis direction, perpendicular to the PN junction plane of the semiconductor chip, transforming the fan-shaped beam into a parallel planar beam.
Coligh specializes in manufacturing Fast Axis Collimating (FAC) Cylindrical Lenses, which provide powerful focusing and collimation capabilities in the fast-axis direction. This is the first and most crucial step in laser beam shaping, and it is primarily used in fiber coupling, laser pumping, and materials processing industries.
Fast Axis Collimating (FAC) Cylindrical Lens Product Features
Our Fast Axis Collimating (FAC) Cylindrical Lenses feature the following characteristics:
- We use fused silica or silicon as the substrate. Both substrates can withstand extremely high laser damage thresholds and simultaneously possess low coefficients of thermal expansion and low absorptivity, ensuring the lens maintains stable performance under continuous high-power laser irradiation.
- We custom-develop antireflective coatings for high-power lasers, with reflectivity controlled to >99.8%.
- We can produce extremely high numerical apertures, ensuring the FAC lens can collect the highest possible optical power along the fast axis.
- In addition to cylindrical lenses, we also offer aspherical lens designs to minimize optical aberrations.
- Depending on the location of the emission point and system requirements, we can design and provide flexible customization services for different lasers, including, but not limited to, custom focal length, shape, size, wavelength, and power.

Fast Axis Collimating (FAC) Cylindrical Lens Applications
- High-Power Fiber Coupling
FAC lenses, as the first step in beam shaping, are placed in front of the laser chip to collimate the beam along the fast axis into parallel light. This achieves fiber coupling efficiency of over 90% and prevents damage to the fiber end face from inhomogeneous and highly divergent beams. - Solid-State Laser Pumping
Solid-state lasers require a pump source of a specific wavelength to generate laser light, and the quality of the pump light directly affects the output performance and efficiency of the solid-state laser. Using FAC lenses in the pump module to collimate the fast axis of the pump laser diode allows for more complete absorption of high-quality pump light by the gain medium, improving pump efficiency.
