The 285nm UV interference filter (FWHM 15nm) is specifically designed to isolate UV signals within the 285nm UVB band. It achieves a 35% transmission rate within its 15nm bandwidth and provides an OD4 blocking depth against stray light across the 200–1200nm range outside the passband. Constructed using a UV-grade fused silica substrate and hard dielectric coatings, the filter is suitable for applications such as UV phototherapy, biomedical analysis, UV spectroscopic detection, and water quality monitoring.

Ultraviolet Phototherapy

Treating skin conditions such as psoriasis and vitiligo via specific phototherapy requires the use of the UVB waveband near 285 nm. Medical UV light sources emit not only the target wavelength but also short-wave UVC, visible light, and infrared light. The 285/15 nm UV interference filter transmits light only within the 277.5–292.5 nm range and achieves an optical density (OD) of 4 for blocking UVC, UVA, visible, and near-infrared light, thereby filtering out radiation that could harm the skin.

Fluorescence Detection

Amino acids such as tryptophan and tyrosine exhibit fluorescence excitation peaks near 280–290 nm. While broadband sources like xenon and deuterium lamps provide output in this range, they also emit significant amounts of visible and long-wave UV light, creating strong background noise. The 285/15 nm UV interference filter isolates a pure UV beam with a 15 nm bandwidth centered at 285 nm to illuminate the sample; the resulting fluorescence (300–400 nm) is then collected via a long-pass filter on the emission side.

Weathering tests for polymer materials, coatings, and photovoltaic modules require simulating the UVB component of solar ultraviolet radiation. The UV fluorescent lamps used typically have broad spectra, containing short-wave UVC (which triggers unnatural aging mechanisms) as well as UVA and visible light (which cause thermal effects). The 285/15 nm UV bandpass filter transmits standardized UVB radiation (277.5–292.5 nm) while completely blocking UVC, UVA, and visible light.
