185 nm VUV Narrow Bandpass Filter FWHM 20nm For Mercury Lamp and Ozone Overview

The 185 nm VUV Narrow Bandpass Filter (FWHM 20nm) is a VUV bandpass filter with a center wavelength of 185 nm and a half-width of 20 nm, coated on a fused silica substrate. It is primarily used for 185 nm spectral purification and ozone detection applications in mercury lamps. Coligh is a manufacturer of VUV bandpass filters, providing design, prototyping, mass production, and customization services for 185 nm VUV narrow bandpass filters to customers in mercury lamp ozone generators, VUV spectroscopy, photocleaning, surface treatment, and research.

We support the entire production process, from membrane design and VUV coating to substrate treatment, cutting, and assembly. We can customize the center wavelength, bandwidth, size, thickness, OD value, and mounting ring according to the customer’s mercury lamp type, optical path structure, ozone output target, and installation space.

Mercury Lamp 185 nm Spectral Purification and Ozone Generation

Low-pressure mercury lamps emit both 185 nm and 254 nm light. 185 nm light photolyzes oxygen to generate ozone, while 254 nm light decomposes ozone. To increase ozone yield or obtain purer 185 nm VUV light, the strong 254 nm line and other stray light must be suppressed. Using a 185/20 nm VUV bandpass filter can improve the spectral purity of 185 nm, reduce the decomposition of ozone by 254 nm, and improve ozone generation efficiency and stability.

Water Treatment and Air Purification Ozone Generators

Ozone generators often utilize 185 nm ultraviolet light to produce ozone. If the 254 nm component of the mercury lamp is too high, it will reduce the net ozone yield. Using a 185 nm bandpass filter can increase the effective VUV ratio. 185/20nm VUV narrowband filters can improve ozone production, reduce energy consumption, and enhance equipment stability and consistency.

VUV Spectroscopic Analysis and Ozone Monitoring

VUV spectroscopy and ozone analysis require isolation of the target wavelength band near 185 nm to suppress stray light and 254 nm interference. 185/20nm VUV narrowband filters allow transmission up to 185nm and filter through to 254nm, improving the spectral signal-to-noise ratio and measurement repeatability, reducing cross-interference, and making them suitable for scientific research, environmental monitoring, and online analysis.
