280nm Broadband UV Transmission Filter FWHM 80nm Overview

The 280nm Broadband UV Transmission Filter (FWHM 80nm) is an ultraviolet bandpass filter with a center wavelength of 280nm and a full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 80nm. It is specifically designed for the 240–320nm spectral range (spanning UVC to UVB) and engineered to address scenarios involving strong interference sources such as 222nm (far-UVC) and 355nm (longer-wave UV) radiation.

280nm Broadband UV Transmission Filter FWHM 80nm Applications

Hybrid UV Disinfection

Disinfection environments often feature multiple UV sources: 222 nm excimer lamps for air disinfection in occupied spaces, and 254 nm mercury lamps or 280 nm LEDs for deep disinfection in unoccupied areas. When independently assessing traditional UVC/UVB disinfection dosages, ambient 222 nm far-UVC and long-wave UV from sunlight or lighting create dual interference, leading to falsely high or low dosage readings. The 280-80nm UV bandpass filter allows key disinfection wavelengths—such as 253.7 nm and 280 nm—to pass through completely, while blocking 222 nm excimer light and UVA/visible light (above 355 nm) with an optical density (OD) of 5.

UV Differential Absorption Spectroscopy

In UV absorption measurements for ozone, COD, and proteins, deuterium and xenon lamps often exhibit strong emission peaks near 224–226 nm, and optical systems may introduce higher-order harmonics or stray light near 355 nm. The 280-80nm UV bandpass filter allows only the 235–310 nm range to enter the spectrometer while suppressing stray light at 226 nm and 355 nm.

Short-wave UV Phototherapy Equipment

Effective wavelengths for dermatological treatments—such as narrowband UVB and specific UVC therapies—are concentrated in the 280–310 nm range. Therapeutic light sources may also emit harmful far-UVC (below 226 nm) and UVA/visible light (above 355 nm), the latter of which generates heat without providing therapeutic benefits. The 280-80nm UV bandpass filter effectively eliminates injurious short-wave UVC and heat-generating long-wave radiation.
